My Approach
I come to therapy as a second career after more than 20 years of working in helping professions from teaching and teen ministry to supporting women’s organizations. I draw on my clinical training as well as my life experience when working with my clients.
My holistic and eclectic approach to therapy incorporates CBT, DBT, SFT, IFS, Gottman Method, grief therapy, attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and play therapy for minors. I will adjust my approach according to your needs. I am currently accepting new clients and you can book a FREE 15 min video consultation with me.
What to Expect From Me As Your Therapist
1. A safe space to process distressing events and emotions, and to learn, change, and heal
2. Respect of your values, beliefs, cultural traditions, and self-determination
3. You will help create your therapy goals and we will be focused on helping you reach those goals in every session
4. Psychoeducation related to your specific challenges
5. I will provide handouts, books, articles, meditations, Apps, podcasts, and resources to enhance your learning
6. I will provide tools to help you regulate your emotions (i.e. DBT skills, thought reframing, breathing and mindfulness skills, and meditations)
7. We will help you become more aware of your cognitive distortions, core values, and communication, boundaries, and attachment styles
8. The clients who make the most progress the fastest, are the ones who are committed to doing therapy exercises outside of our sessions. I will provide therapy “homework” at the end of each session.
9. Assessments to track your progress in therapy; recommendations and referrals to psychiatrists for psychotropic medications as desired/needed. I will communicate with outside providers (with your consent) to ensure best treatment of care.
10. If you are seeking help for a child/teen, I will meet with parents every 4-5 sessions to check in on progress at home, and will provide family sessions as well. I will communicate regularly with parents about your child’s therapy goals and what to work on with them at home as well.
